Violence terrifies everyone in Brazil. We have one of the highest homicide rates in the world, with 30.5 murders per 100,000 people. Our mission was to draw the attention to this scary reality in Brazil and put some pressure on our politicians to do something about it. By doing that, Estadao wants to raise awareness about the violence in Brazil and promote discussions to find solutions to this issue.

 

We created a book whose title suggests things you should do in Brazil before you die. But when you open it, you see what people were doing just before being killed. The book is a collection of one hundred real news from Estadao. After a long search in the archive of thousands of articles, we chose the best 100 to tell the stories in the pages of our book.

We sent the book to dozens of politicians with the aim of putting pressure on them to find solutions for the violence in Brazil. Along with the book, we sent a letter inviting them to share their proposals for new laws as well as asking them how we can change our reality. Many politicians contacted us, including Samia Bomfim, councilwoman of the city of Sao Paulo and member of the Human Rights Commission.
