[ ADSTARS 2017 Gold – Archimedes Trajano ]

(MAD STARS) 2017. 11. 15. 13:18

Martial Law is the darkest chapter in Philippine history.  Thousands of young men and women were abducted and killed.   But the Millennials in the Philippines, comprising 46% of the population, know nothing about it.  Because they were not born yet when it happened.  And  their school textbooks omitted facts about human rights violation during Martial Law.

We brought back from the dead a victim of Martial Law to tell his story to petition the government to to revise the textbooks and include historical truths about the atrocities during Marcos regime.

We chose Archimedes Trajano, one of the  known victims of Martial Law.  He was a 21-year old student when he stood up in an open forum and questioned Imee Marcos, the Philippine Dictator's daughter about her  capability to lead  the National Youth Organization. He also questioned her father's role in human right's violation.   He was forcibly dragged out of the auditorium.Days later, his bloodied body was found in a street in Manila.

Launched during the anniversary of Martial Law in the Philippines, the campaign generated passionate conversations between pro and anti Marcos supporters.    Thousands signed the petition.

Recently, the Department of Education of the Philippines has committed to a curriculum change that will show the "complete" picture of Martial Law, including the "corruption and human rights abuses" during that time.
